Intro to Health InsuranceStudents will be introduced to health insurance and how it works through a series of discussions, readings, and activities. Students will investigate the costs of medical bills with and without insurance, read about how they can be covered by health insurance, and how insurance works with the lifepath they choose (example: military, college, etc.). Students will break down costs and compare insurance cases in a scenario worksheet. The lesson is expected to take two 45 minute periods.

Intro to Auto InsuranceStudents are introduced to auto insurance through a reading, followed by a questionaire activity. The reading details different types of auto insurance, how students can apply for insurance, and the costs and savings that come with each plan. Students will show what they know through analyzing three different cases and applying the right policy for their budget and scenario. This lesson is expected to take 1-2 45 minute class periods.

Intro to InvestingThis lesson consists of multiple mini activities to introduce students to differnt types of investing, and terms for students to understand how investing works. Topics include learning about investment strategies, mutual funds, stocks, diversification, and investment risks, through discussion and writing activities accompanied by reading and teacher presentations. This lesson is expected to take four 45 minute class periods.

How hard is it to make money in stocks?The stock market is complex, with lots of buying and selling of stock. It's one of those things you learn through experience... but even then trained Ivy Leagues can't beat the Market. Have students read this article from Business Insider. Then consider doing a hands on activity and using the Stock Market Game at www.marketwatch.com. The teacher will need to arrange a game for their class and then have students create accounts.
